First, look at Vietnam and its leader Lady Triệu in Civilization 6 • Eurogamer.net

Firaxis released an in-depth video revealing Vietnam for Civilization 6.

Vietnam, part of the New Frontier Pass, scheduled for launch on January 28, is led by Bà Triệu, also known as Triệu Thị Trinh or Lady Triệu. Bà Triệu fought against the occupation of northern Vietnam by the Kingdom of Wu in the early 200s AD.

Vietnam’s unique skill is the Nine Dragon River Delta, which makes all terrestrial specialty districts built only in rainforests, swamps or wooden tiles. The buildings on each type of tile receive additional science, production or culture. This ability also allows woods to be planted with the Medieval Civic Faires.

Bà Triệu’s unique ability is to Expel the Aggressors, which provides additional combat strength to units fighting in rainforest, swamp or wooden tiles. This bonus is further increased for tiles owned by Vietnam. If you start a curve in a tropical forest, swamp or forest, the units get additional movement, which is also promoted for own tiles.

Vietnam has a unique medieval-era ranged attack unit called Voi Chien, which can move after the attack. It is more expensive than the crossbow unit it replaces, but it is stronger when defending and has a better view.

And finally, the only district in Vietnam is Thanh, which grants additional culture to each adjacent district. Once the flight has been researched, the district generates tourism equal to its cultural production. It requires no population and is cheaper to build than the camp district it replaces.

Vietnam looks like a relatively flexible civilization with a focus on the terrain, which can reach science or culture, depending on the location of the districts. Firaxis suggests building buildings as soon as possible to leverage your extra income. Avoid the desert, but don’t be afraid to settle on open plains or pastures, as Vietnam can plant forests early. However, rainforests cannot be planted, so think carefully before cutting them.

Vietnam-owned forests, rainforests and marsh shingles offer significant tactical benefits for the city, making Vietnam “a defensive power,” said Firaxis. But if you choose your battle strategically, these pieces also allow Vietnam to carry out some paralyzing offensive attacks.

Watch out for forest fires and volcanoes, though – they can be especially devastating for Vietnam.

As mentioned, the fifth Civilization 6 DLC, the Vietnam & Kublai Khan package, will be released on January 28. Those with the New Frontier Pass get this DLC, or you can purchase it separately for £ 7.39.
