Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders is not letting the fame of his gloves go to his head.
Sanders was photographed wearing a pair of tailored gloves held by President Joe Biden on Wednesday and the image quickly went viral.
However, instead of absorbing attention, Sanders is shifting his focus back to his home state – where temperatures can get pretty cold.

On Wednesday, after the inauguration, Sanders said CBS News that, as a Vermonter, he knows how to dress well.
“In Vermont … we know something about the cold,” he said. “And we are not so concerned with good fashion, we want to keep warm. And that is what I did today.”

Sanders told another news reporter that he is happy that the photo went viral because it “makes people aware that we make good gloves in Vermont”.

“We also have good coats,” added Sanders.

Sanders’ quote was posted on Twitter on Thursday and, like the photo, quickly went viral.
“I am familiar with Burlington Coat Factory”, a person answered.

Someone added: “They are more than excellent coats.”
Another person stated Sanders’s logic, tweeting: “We who live in the north of the country fully understand his mood during the ceremony. Nothing better than a pair of warm gloves, bro.”

Although they have gained a lot of attention in the past two days, this is not the first time that Sanders’ gloves have gone viral.

He has reportedly been using them for several years – including in the election campaign for his presidential race.

The gloves were made by Jen Ellis, a teacher from Essex Junction, Vermont, who created the sustainable gift with reused and recycled materials.
Ellis told Slate that since Sanders was photographed wearing gloves during the inauguration, she has been inundated with emails.
“I think my Gmail has crashed now,” she told the magazine.
“Every five minutes, I received several hundred emails about the gloves,” she added later.

However, Ellis does not plan to sell more gloves. Although she was selling about 30 or 40 gloves that she made from reused and recycled sweaters last year, when she first tweeted about making Sanders’ gloves, Ellis has none of the remaining materials.
“People have been contacting me thinking they can get gloves, and they really can’t,” she told Slate. “I don’t have any more and I don’t have a lot of glove business anymore because it really wasn’t worth it.”
“It was not worth pursuing as a business, even as a secondary activity,” she added later. “I basically make them as gifts.”
