Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 849 new cases, 11 new deaths

The Oregon Health Authority reported on Thursday 849 new confirmed or presumed cases of coronavirus and 11 more deaths, as cases and hospitalizations continued with a slow downward trend.

Thursday marked the fifth consecutive day with less than 850 cases. The positive trajectory contrasts sharply with the state modeling of two weeks ago, which suggested that cases could increase this month.

Oregon is due to launch a new model on Friday, when Governor Kate Brown will hold a news conference to discuss the latest developments in the state’s response to the pandemic.

Where the new cases are by municipality: Baker (4), Benton (24), Clackamas (71), Clatsop (7), Columbia (1), Coos (10), Crook (2), Deschutes (32), Douglas (22), Gilliam (1), Harney (1), Hood River (8), Jackson (42), Jefferson (6), Josephine (21), Klamath (18), Lake (1), Lane (97), Lincoln (11), Linn (23) , Malheur (18), Marion (87), Morrow (11), Multnomah (123), Polk (18), Tillamook (1), Umatilla (35), Union (6), Wallowa (1), Wasco (11) , Washington (110) and Yamhill (26).

New deaths: Oregon’s 1,833th coronavirus-related death was a 78-year-old woman from Clackamas County who tested positive on January 6 and died on January 14 at her home.

The 1,834th death is a 94-year-old woman from Jackson County who died on December 28 at her home. COVID-19 was listed on his death certificate as a significant cause or factor that contributed to his death.

Oregon’s 1,835th death is a 90-year-old man from Jackson County who died January 3 at his home. COVID-19 was listed on his death certificate as a significant cause or factor that contributed to his death.

Oregon’s 1,836th death is a 79-year-old woman from Jackson County who tested positive on December 26 and died on January 17 at her home.

The 1,837th death in Oregon is that of a 77-year-old man from Jackson County who tested positive on December 28 and died on December 31 at his home.

Oregon’s 1,838th death is a 100-year-old woman from Jackson County who tested positive on December 22 and died on January 10 at her home.

Oregon’s 1,839th death is a 90-year-old woman from Lane County, who tested positive on December 21 and died on January 17 at the PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center – Riverbend.

Oregon’s 1,840th death is from a 69-year-old man from Lane County who tested positive on December 9 and died on January 17 at McKenzie Willamette Medical Center.

Oregon’s 1,841st death was a 65-year-old man from Lane County who tested positive on December 6 and died on January 20 at Oregon Health & Science University.

Oregon’s 1,842th death was a 52-year-old woman from Washington County who tested positive on January 3 and died on January 6 at Hillsboro Medical Center.

Oregon’s 1,843th death is a 66-year-old man from Yamhill County who tested positive on January 6 and died on January 17 at his home.

Each person had underlying health conditions or state officials were working to determine whether the person had underlying medical conditions.

In addition, the deaths of three inmates at the Oregon Department of Corrections prison facilities were announced on Thursday and were not reflected in the state count:

A man aged 70 to 80 who was housed at the Two Rivers Correctional Center in Umatilla County who tested positive for COVID-19 and died in a local hospital on January 20.

A man aged 55 to 65 who was housed at Oregon State Penitentiary in Marion County who tested positive for COVID-19 and died in a local hospital on January 21.

The prevalence of infections: On Thursday, the state reported 952 new positive tests out of 20,119 tests performed, equaling a positive rate of 4.7%.

Who was infected: New confirmed or suspected infections increased among the following age groups: 0-9 (43); 10-19 (127); 20-29 (168); 30-39 (130); 40-49 (116); 50-59 (110); 60-69 (71); 70-79 (34); 80 and older (32).

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 329 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were hospitalized on Thursday, seven fewer than on Wednesday. Of these, 87 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, three fewer than on Wednesday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 253,711 doses of 479,325 received, just under 53% of its supply.

Since it started: Oregon reported 135,973 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,843 deaths, among the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 3,023,332 test lab reports.
