Wanted Waynesboro man arrested in South Carolina

A wanted man from Waynesboro was detained in South Carolina this week after having been on the run since December 2020.

According to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office, Gregory Allen Jones, 39, of Waynesboro was wanted for four felony warrants and a misdemeanor warrant related to a stalking on December 8, 2020.

At that time, he was wanted for fraud, possession of a firearm by a criminal, possession of a firearm in possession of drugs, possession of a drug I or II and reckless driving, a statement said.

The sheriff’s office chased Jones a second time on December 17, 2020, with further charges pending.

Jones was arrested in Anderson County, South Carolina, on January 20.

According to a post from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were working on Interstate 85 when Monroe County, Georgia, when authorities sent information about a stolen vehicle heading north.

A deputy observed the vehicle and confirmed it was the stolen car from Georgia, the post said. A traffic stop was attempted, but the suspect ran away.

MPs used the PIT maneuver, or the chase intervention technique, which is when an officer uses his cruiser to send the fleeing vehicle in a pirouette, according to PursuitResponse.org.

The driver, Jones, was arrested without further incident. His charges are pending at the moment, the post said.
