The vaccine is here. Well, more or less.
If you are a healthcare professional or a nursing home resident or Los Angeles County employee, you are eligible for the vaccine now. It is no longer limited to frontline health professionals only: health professionals like chiropractors, speech therapists, acupuncturists and people who provide care in morgues, pharmacies, dental offices and more are now eligible. (See the full list of the county here.)
Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that people 65 and older are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. On Monday, Hilda Solis, chairman of the LA County Board of Supervisors, issued an executive order ordering health officials to make vaccine appointments available to residents age 65 and older starting on Thursday.
The county and an affiliated vaccine clinic are allowing everyone else to sign up for an email when it’s their turn.
How to apply
Residents aged 65 and over can use the LA County public health agency website (VaccinateLACounty.com) to make an appointment to be vaccinated by clicking “Click here to make an appointment” or by calling (833) 540-0473 between 8 am and 8:30 pm
For people under 65 who are not healthcare professionals, go to VaccinateLACounty.com and enter your email address in the box at the top of the page and click “send”. This will sign you up for the county’s COVID-19 vaccine email newsletter, which will include updates and information on which groups are eligible to be vaccinated.
Anyone in LA County can access the Carbon Health website (carbonhealth.com/covid-19-vaccines) and enter your line of work, date of birth and answer if you have health risks related to COVID. You will be asked to schedule an appointment if you are eligible and to be on the waiting list if you are not.
In Orange County, residents aged 65 and over can apply for a vaccination appointment through Othena. The Orange County Health Agency tweeted that more than 10,000 people signed up on the first day of availability.

What can you do while you wait?
The same things you’ve been doing since March:
Until you receive your second dose of the vaccine and wait for the appropriate time to develop antibodies, the safest place to be is at home.
