Here are the player ratings for Fulham vs. Manchester United. Let’s assume that everyone loses a point in the first 10 minutes.
David de Gea: 5/10
There was not much he could do about the goal. It was not called many other times. Your sweeper saved the necessary time.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6/10
Hard to blame him for playing Lookman in play simply because he was tilted the wrong way. I went very well. Your final ball is not everything, but this is nothing new for anyone.
Eric Bailly: 4/10
It is not your best combination. He never bothered to try to catch the Fulham striker when he ran between the defenders and the flag was not raised. I had several moments of nervousness.
Harry Maguire: 5/10
I don’t know why there was a gap between him and Bailly in the first one. He didn’t stifle his head in the box, as he had no idea where he was and was deliberately going in that direction.
Luke Shaw: 6/10
He went up and down the field again. He did a good job of recovery to force a much stronger kick from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Fred: 8/10
He maintained his position in front of the four defenders very well, which allowed Pogba the freedom to do Paul Pogba’s things, while still finding time to do the things that bothered Fred.
Paul Pogba: 8/10
There were two Pogbas in this match. Sometimes he wanted to be sophisticated and had problems. When he kept it simple, he was sensational. And then he went and won the game for United.
Bruno Fernandes: 6/10
I don’t know what Bruno did during the first 19 minutes of the game, but he did not participate in this football game. Then a switch seemed to spin in his head and he was sensational for the next 10 minutes, creating a goal and forcing a good defense at that time. But beyond that explosion, he struggled to affect the game.
Anthony Martial: 6/10
Lacking confidence now. He continues to do many things well, he just isn’t scoring goals – which is just a problem because that’s how the attackers are judged. He looked strangely as if he had never played with Luke Shaw before.
Edinson Cavani: 7/10
He never stopped moving all night. Predatory instinct gave him a huge draw and he forced a great save that could have put United 3-1 just after Pogba’s goal.
Mason Greenwood: 6/10
He contributed more to the construction move than he normally does, which was nice to see. It kept the width very well in the attack phase, which is good for teammates, but not so much where it will be most effective.
Marcus Rashford: N / A
Scott McTominay: N / A
Nemanja Matić: N / A
Manager
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 6/10
The midfield duo Pogba Fred gave us that we were dying to see. It’s good to give Rashford a rest. There will always be a reason to start Bruno Fernandes, but at some point you need to give him a break. United were not at their best – Martial’s three heads, Cavani and Greenwood still look bad in many ways – but they managed to get over it. It was an ugly game, but it is January and most games at this time of year are ugly; in the end, United withdrew and got three points. This is what you should be doing in these games.
