NHL fines $ 100,000 capital for breaking COVID rules, player absences may follow

Washington Capitals has the distinction of being the first NHL team to be fined for breaking the COVID protocol.

We don’t know the details yet; we just know the cost: $ 100,000.

UPDATE: Ovechkin, Orlov, Samsonov and Kuznetsov are not available due to the NVIDIA COVID protocol.

From NHL:

NEW YORK (January 20, 2021) – The National Hockey League today announced that it fined Washington Capitals $ 100,000 for violations by players in the League’s COVID-19 protocols, which involved social interactions between team members who were in close contact and who were not wearing face covers.

The Capitals spent the last few days in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but returned to DC last night.

To make matters worse, the NHL listed a “TBA” for “To Be Annumped” in Washington on its list of COVID-related absences.

That list previously listed “None” for Caps. We will provide an update as soon as we have details.

That Caps is scheduled to host the Sabers on Friday. This must be your first game at home. Let’s see if that happens.
