The Cowboys continue to make changes to their coaching staff just a year after signing Mike McCarthy as their head coach.
After firing Jim Tomsula, the Cowboys are expected to hire Aden Durde as a defensive line coach, reports Nick Eatman of the team’s website. Durde spent three seasons in Atlanta with Cowboys’ new defensive coordinator, Dan Quinn.
Durde, who was on the Cowboys’ minority fellowship program in 2014-15, served as coach of Atlanta’s external linebackers last season.
The Cowboys hired Joe Whitt Jr. as a secondary coach last week. He replaces Maurice Linguist, who found a new job as a defense co-coordinator at the University of Michigan.
The changes were expected after Dallas set a franchise record by allowing 473 points last season. The Cowboys went from defensive coordinator Mike Nolan immediately after the season ended.
Cowboys are also expected to elevate Harold Nash Jr. to strength and conditioning conditioning, according to Eatman.
Nash oversaw the position after Markus Paul died unexpectedly in the week of the team’s Thanksgiving game.
Nash has 16 years of experience in the NFL, including seven years as a main strength coach. He held that position in New England from 2011-15 and then in Detroit from 2016-18.
