How low can you go? It’s hard to say, but the Google Nest Hub has hit the low point of $ 49.

Do you live near a Walmart? Start the car. For a limited time, and while supplies last, Walmart has the Google Nest Hub for $ 49 for in-store pickup. Shipping is not accessible. I don’t know how much inventory is available by location, but I do know that businesses like this tend to sell out quickly.

Formerly known as the Google Home Hub, this smart screen was originally sold for $ 149. Later, Google dropped to $ 129, but kept falling and falling. The lowest price I remember seeing: $ 56.

Nest Hub effectively uses a smart speaker powered by Google and adds a 7-inch touchscreen. This opens the door to things like guided recipes, song lyrics, appointment schedules and so on – all the same things your phone or tablet can do, but something that is a permanent fixture in, say, your kitchen.

There is no camera, so you cannot use it for video calls in the same way that you can Amazon Echo Show 5 (currently $ 70, often for sale for less). Some people may find this preferable, however, in light of recent privacy concerns.

For $ 150, this may have looked a little extravagant. But for $ 49? Terribly tempting.
