Gamecocks trend for Tennessee ex-commit

South Carolina football is gaining momentum in the recruitment process.

Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt, along with nine assistants, was fired yesterday amid allegations of recruitment within the volunteer program. The allegations are the result of an internal investigation and appear to revolve around the notion that the Volunteer technical team was handing out McDonald’s bags full of money to visiting recruits.

As Gamecocks saw just a few months ago, a change in coaching can have a significant impact on new recruiting classes. South Carolina lost more than half of its 21-year-old class after Will Muschamp’s dismissal, but now has the opportunity to capitalize on his East SEC brothers’ misfortunes.

The four-star receiver, Jordan Mosley, is the trend for Gamecocks according to 247 Sports. The Alabama native dropped out of Tennessee’s recruiting class on January 18 and will reopen his recruitment before the February signing date.

Mosley is considered the 38th best start in the country and the 11th best prospect for the state of Yellowhammer. He recorded 45 receptions in 450 yards and six touchdowns last season.

Here’s what recruiting analyst Barton Simmons had to say about the talented pass catcher.

Receiver less than six feet wide that looks like a slot machine, but also has the versatility to touch the outside. Checked the speed of the track that appears in straight line situations. It has a good kickback value. It can be performed by cornerbacks on the outside. Good ball skills and can win contested balls, despite size limitations. Shows quick release. Very good run after capturing talent that is used in many ways. Especially a straight athlete. Side agility and running on route are issues. The Future Power Five beginner who has the athleticism to project himself into a final perspective of the NFL Draft.

Simmons compares Mosley to ex-Gamecock star and current Carolina Panther Pharoh Cooper.

A positive aspect to note in recruiting Mosley, from the point of view of South Carolina, is his primary recruiter and possible position coach. The new wide receivers coach, Justin Stepp, was Mosely’s top recruiter while he was in Arkansas, finishing as runner-up for Volunteers for Mosley’s commitment.

Stepp joined the Gamecock team earlier this month and appears to have a head start over his competitors due to the relationship built with Mosley in recent months. Should South Carolina get a wideout commitment, it would give the squad an immediate player in a position of need.

South Carolina football is also a trend for JUCO defender.

Gamecocks are also gaining momentum with the defensive side of Monroe Community College, Jimmori Robinson. The 6-foot-6 rusher pass offers offerings from Auburn, Arizona, Bowling Green, Coastal Carolina, Atlantic Florida, Southern Mississippi, Syracuse, UT San Antonio and Texas Tech. He also attracted interest from the State of Florida, North Carolina, Texas and Virginia Tech, although they have not yet made a scholarship offer.

Robinson is ranked as one of JUCO’s top 20 candidates, as well as the third best defensive end in junior college rankings.

Before attending Monroe Community College, Robinson spent a season at Dodge City Community College in Kansas. He recorded 20 tackles, with 10 coming behind the scrimmage line, for the Conquerors. Monroe suspended his 2020 season for the spring of 2021.

Robinson could take into account the rotation in the external lineback or in the defensive end if he decided to sign with the Gamecocks.
