Coronavirus in Oregon: State reports 637 new cases, 5 new deaths

The Oregon Health Authority on Monday reported 637 new confirmed or presumed cases of coronavirus and five more deaths as the case count continued a three-day downward trend.

Tuesday represented the third consecutive day of case counts below 800 and single-digit reports of new deaths. It was not clear whether these figures represented a real reduction in transmission and deaths or just a delay in notification.

Where the new cases are by municipality: Baker (5), Benton (16), Clackamas (63), Clatsop (1), Columbia (5), Coos (3), Crook (2), Deschutes (37), Douglas (5), Hood River (1) , Jackson (41), Jefferson (2), Josephine (27), Klamath (25), Lake (3), Lane (71), Lincoln (5), Linn (7), Marion (67), Morrow (2) , Multnomah (125), Polk (14), Tillamook (1), Umatilla (13), Union (4), Wasco (4), Washington (76) and Yamhill (12).

New deaths: Oregon’s 1,804th coronavirus-related death was a 78-year-old man from Deschutes County, who tested positive on January 5 and died on January 15 at St. Charles Bend Hospital.

The death of 1,805 is a 78-year-old woman from Josephine County, who tested positive on December 28 and died on January 18 at Asante Three Rivers Medical Center.

Oregon’s 1,806th death was an 81-year-old woman from Lane County who tested positive on November 25 and died on December 15 at her home.

The 1,807 death in Oregon is of a 91-year-old man from Washington County who tested positive on December 11 and died on January 15 at his home.

Oregon’s 1,808th death was a 65-year-old woman from Washington County who tested positive on January 4 and died on January 17 at Oregon Health & Science University.

Each person had underlying health conditions or state officials were working to determine whether the person had underlying medical conditions.

The prevalence of infections: On Tuesday, the state registered 887 new positive tests out of 18,187 tests carried out, which is equivalent to a positivity rate of 4.9%.

Who was infected: The state has not released detailed figures since Friday. Since then, new confirmed or suspected infections have grown in the following age groups: 0-9 (162); 10-19 (400); 20-29 (637); 30-39 (466); 40-49 (495); 50-59 (458); 60-69 (291); 70-79 (182); 80 and older (116).

Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 328 Oregon residents with confirmed coronavirus infections were in the hospital on Tuesday, 14 fewer than on Monday. Of these, 92 patients with coronavirus were in intensive care units, two less than on Monday.

Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 225,066 doses of 339,950 received, more than 66% of its supply.

Since it started: Oregon reported 134,468 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,808 deaths, among the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 2,987,263 test lab reports.
