Father, 12-year-old daughter died in the Shelby Township accident

SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Michigan (WXYZ) – A father and his 12-year-old daughter, both from Macomb Township, died in a vehicle accident involving a commercial truck, according to local police.

The deadly accident happened around 6:15 pm on Tuesday in the Van Dyke area and 21 Mile Road. A Dodge Ram truck, driven by his father, and a commercial vehicle collided at the intersection, police said. The Dodge was totally engulfed in flames.

Inside the Dodge were a 45-year-old father and his two children, both aged 12. One of the 12-year-old girl died with her father in the accident. The other 12-year-old is in the hospital with serious injuries.

After an initial investigation, it was discovered that the Dodge truck was traveling north on Van Dyke and turning left on 21 Mile Road. The commercial truck was heading south on Van Dyke and traveling through the intersection on 12 Mile Road when the collision happened.

The driver of the commercial vehicle was not injured, police said. He was interviewed on the spot and released pending the outcome of the investigation.
