Education HP Chromebook x360 11 G4 has a USI pen dock

Before the annual BETT educational show, HP is announcing new revisions of the Chromebook aimed at students and teachers. The focus is mainly on accessibility and robustness, but one in particular – the HP Chromebook x360 11 G4 – stands out.

HP Chromebook 11 and 11MK G9 EE

The first two Chrome OS devices are almost identical, except for the 11 G8 EE (available in February) using an Intel Celeron, while the 11MK G8 EE (January) is powered by an octa-core MediaTek MT8183 that reaches up to 16 hours of battery life. Otherwise, they are standard shells that can be configured with up to 8 GB of RAM and 32 or 64 GB of storage. A touchscreen variant of the 11.6 inch 1366 x 768 screen is available.

In terms of design, the objective is to take into account classroom environments with the ability to withstand falls in concrete and plywood. This is done through reinforced corners and “co-molded” rubber contact points, as well as a reinforced USB-C port. The keyboard can withstand splashes and attempts to pull keys out. In addition to “Jet Black”, it comes in a relatively exciting “Nautical Teal” color.

As suggested by the name, this 2 in 1 has an 11.6-inch touchscreen that works with the HP USI Garaged stylus. This stylus can be stored and charged (15 seconds provide 45 minutes of power) in a slot just above the keyboard. Available only with an Intel Celeron chip, there is an 8 megapixel camera facing the world on the left rest of the keyboard for use in tablet mode. The ports include dual USB-C and USB-A, as well as a microSD card slot and headset. Expected availability is scheduled for March.

Powered by a MediaTek processor, this is a simpler HP convertible Chromebook for education that lacks a pen and second camera. The device will be available later this month.

HP Chromebook 14 G7

The biggest Chrome OS device unveiled today is the HP Chromebook 14 G7. “Designed for teachers”, is an existing design that has a 14-inch screen with or without touch. Also built to withstand drops and splashes, HP – in a sign of the times – touts how the screen, keyboard and chassis can be easily cleaned with wipes. In fact, it has been tested to go through 1,000 disinfection cycles.

Equipped with only one Intel Celeron, it can be configured with up to 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. The ports include two USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, microSD and a headphone connector. It will be available next month.
