CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) – A medical cannabis advocacy group says South Carolina medical professionals will come together to call on lawmakers to enact a comprehensive medical cannabis program in 2021.
The SC Compassionate Care Alliance says it is a coalition working to establish a comprehensive medical cannabis program in South Carolina and has organized a virtual press conference.
SC Compassionate Care Alliance founder Jill Swing said the conference will be held at 10am on Tuesday.
Swing says the press conference is being held as the impetus for passing a medical marijuana law grows within the legislature.
Last month, Senator Tom Davis (R) and Congressman Bill Herbkersman (R) introduced bills that would create a comprehensive medical cannabis program in the state, says Swing.
South Carolina’s Compassionate Care Act would allow patients with debilitating medical conditions and a medical certificate to have access to medical marijuana in what Swing says would be regulated facilities.
The president of the SC Podiatric Medical Association, Dr. Jamelah Lemon, the vice president of research at UofSC, Dr. Prakash Nagarkatti, and the head of the UofSC Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Stephen Cutler, will all be speaking, said Swing.
