The delivery of nearly 10,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines in northern Texas has been delayed, according to the Texas Department of Health Services.
The DSHS said in a statement:
“DSHS has learned that, based on federal shipping schedules, the vaccine ordered on Friday and due to arrive today is expected to arrive tomorrow, January 19, based on the latest information from Pfizer and our federal partners. The delay affected 55 of the 263 suppliers scheduled to receive the vaccine this week. “
Of the 55 affected locations across the state, five are in northern Texas.
North Texas locations include Collin County Health Care Services, McKinney Fire Department, Garland City Health Department, Dallas Baylor University Medical Center and Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic.
The delay means that 9,975 doses must arrive one day later than planned.
It is unclear what impact, if any, delays will have on distribution, as many providers closed on Monday for the MLK Jr. holiday. In cities across the state, vaccination appointments on Monday had to be rescheduled. later this week and are “conditional on delivery,” a San Antonio city official said in a statement.
