There was some valuable news that came out today about the Chicago Bears, with the biggest one requesting an interview with defensive coach Jonathan Gannon of the Indianapolis Colts for the position of defensive coordinator. With the new rule that allows coaches to leave for coordinator positions, even if they are still under contract, the request is just a formality.

- The Bears also requested permission to interview Dallas Cowboys senior defensive assistant George Edwards for the position of coordinator. Prior to the 2020 season, Edwards, 54, was the defensive coordinator of the 2014-2019 Vikings and has been an NFL coach since 1998.
- In other Bears news, assistant coach Henry Burris told CTV Ottawa that coach Matt Nagy plans to bring him back to the 2021 season. “As for my role, I will find out in the next few days, possibly by the end of week, ”said Burris. “Now just sit on your side and wait. But most importantly, the coach told me when we hung up the phone: ‘Go and be a father and enjoy the time with your family, we will talk soon and we will arrange things for the future’ ”.
Burris was a member of the Bears offseason technical team thanks to the Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship, but the Bears enjoyed the work so much that Burris did that they invited him to join the offensive team throughout the 2020 season.
- Los Angeles Chargers is hiring Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley as the head coach, and that puts Chicago defensive line coach Jay Rodger as a candidate to join Chargers as a defensive coordinator.
- Former Bears linebacker Sam I think tweeted his choice for the next Bears DC
The Bears don’t have to look far for their next DC. Sean Desai has been ready for this role for years. He was Vic Fangio’s right-hand man for 4 years and helped create this defense for greatness. Smart, talented, knows the ball and has all the credentials. All he needs is an opportunity

When asked what makes him such a viable candidate, I think he said, “Desai is a spit image of Brandon Staley. Brilliant defensive mind, the scheme is out of this world. ”
Desai was brought to the Bears as part of the Marc Trestman team in 2013, and he was hired by John Fox and again by Matt Nagy. His experience as a coach has been with linebackers, defenders, running backs and special teams.
- Bears passing the game’s coordinator, Dave Ragone, is still a leader candidate to join Falcons’ new head coach, Arthur Smith, as their offensive coordinator.
- The Bears have already announced twelve out-of-season squad additions through reserve / futures contracts, and today the contracts for players on the training team that they have not signed have expired. These contracts were for linebackers Mantio Te’o and Devante Bond, defender Sojourn Shelton, running back Spencer Ware, offensive lineman Eric Kush and defender Tyler Bray.
