More than a week has passed since images of the alleged scary DMs between Armie Hammer and a series of women first appeared – and now, the actor has reportedly issued an apology, though not for the reason that many might think.
For days, obsessives in pop culture were horrified by the images, which have not been confirmed by any official source, but seem to show that the actor once described himself as a “cannibal” and has fantasies of slave and rape. In addition, other recorded messages and interviews from one of his ex-boyfriends claim that Hammer was also, to say the least, mentally and emotionally abusive. The actor dismissed the claims as “bullshit” in a broad statement announcing his departure from Jennifer Lopez’s romantic comedy Forced marriage.
The tabloids, of course, spent the past week digging up all kinds of dirt in the Call me by your name actor – including a private Instagram account where the actor appeared to post a photo of himself using the hallucinogenic DMT before a mandatory drug test. The account also included a video of a woman posing on all fours on a bed in lingerie, her reddish ass with a caption referring to her as “Mrs. Cayman. “This video, apparently, is what Hammer felt the need to address explicitly.
Apparently, the Miss Cayman Islands Universe Committee did not like the nickname Hammer gave the woman in the video. “The role of Miss. Cayman is, in part, to serve as a role model for young women in the Cayman Islands, ”wrote the organization in a statement last week, as first reported by People. “The representation of women in the video goes against everything that our organization stands for and the Committee is therefore asking Mr. Hammer to immediately remove all references to Miss Cayman from its social media channels.
Hammer has now issued an apology through the Cayman Compass– apparently marking the first time that he publicly recognized the account and verified its authenticity. “I would like to clarify that the person in my video, who was stolen from my private Instagram, is not Miss Cayman,” said the actor. “I am sincerely sorry for any confusion that my foolish attempt at humor may have caused.”
