The United States issued an order requiring incoming passengers to provide proof of a negative coronavirus test (COVID-19) or recovery of COVID-19.
A health alert posted on the website of the US Embassy in Barbados on Saturday said: “US citizens in countries where the appropriate COVID-19 test is not available or may not be able to meet the requirements, they must leave immediately or prepare for unable to return to the United States until they can meet the requirements. “
This follows a recent action from Britain, which said that from 18 January all travel corridors with the UK will be suspended.
A press release from the British High Commission said that emergency measures were introduced “to be in place for at least a month in order to protect the United Kingdom against new virus variants”.
Britain said that “all international arrivals from any country (including British and Irish citizens) must now test before departure and isolate themselves for ten days”.
In addition, passengers “must continue to fill out a passenger location form and have a negative test before traveling to the UK or they may face a £ 500 fine for each one”.
The US health alert also said: “The director of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has signed an order requiring all airline passengers traveling to the United States, including US citizens and residents legal permanent (LPRs), provide proof of a COVID-19 viral test for negative coronavirus or COVID-19 recovery.
“From January 26, all airline passengers to the United States who are two years of age or older must have a negative COVID-19 viral test done within three calendar days of travel or provide a positive test result and documentation from a licensed health provider or public health official for recovering from COVID-19 in the 90 days prior to travel.
“Passengers must also certify, under penalty of the law, that they have received a negative result on the qualification test or the recovery of the COVID-19 and medical clearance to travel.”
The notice said that airlines should refuse boarding to passengers who do not meet these requirements.
There has been a growing concern around the world, as new variants of the coronavirus have been discovered in countries like Britain, South Africa and Brazil. (PR / KG)
