University of South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer selected Jimmy Lindsey as a defensive line coach for the Gamecocks, he was announced today.
With Lindsey on board as the defensive lineman, Mike Peterson will train outside linebackers and defensive ends, while the defensive coordinator Clayton White will be in charge of the internal linebackers. Torrian Gray will be the mentor of pesticides.

Lindsey, who was born in Cheraw, SC and lists Morven, NC as her hometown, spent the 2020 season on Lovie Smith’s team at the University of Illinois, training defensive purposes. He served as a defensive coordinator at the end of Illini’s Penn State season after Smith was released from his coaching duties. Under Lindsey’s tutelage, Owen Carney Jr. won second team All-Big Ten honors after collecting 28 tackles, 7.0 tackles for defeat and 5.0 sacks in eight games.
Lindsey came to Illinois after three seasons in Western Kentucky, where he worked with the current Gamecock defensive coordinator. Clayton White. Lindsey was the Hilltoppers defensive line coach in 2017, before training the defensive ends and serving as a recruiting coordinator in 2018-2019.
“Jimmy has a really impressive track record of success with the guys he coached and was highly recommended by Coach White, who worked with him at Western Kentucky,” said Coach Beamer. “I love that he has connections with the Carolinas – born in South Carolina and raised in North Carolina – and also trained and recruited in this region.”
Lindsey’s technical career began at his alma mater, Chattanooga, where he was an assistant in 2000 and 2001, while graduating. After graduation, he was appointed coach of the Mocs linebackers in 2002.
He then spent four seasons (2003-06) at Gardner-Webb, where he coached the defensive line, linebackers, special teams and was also the recruiting coordinator. Under Lindsey’s guidance, Harold Wells was named defensive striker of the year for the 2004 I-AA Football Gazette, and defensive end Brian Johnson was developed by Kansas City Chiefs in 2008.
Lindsey spent two seasons (2007-08) in Miami (Ohio), serving as defensive end coach and co-coordinator of special teams, then a year at Tennessee-Martin as a defensive line coach before returning to Chattanooga for two seasons ( 2010-11) as a defensive line coach and coordinator of special teams. In 2011, four of Lindsey’s defensive line attackers won honors from All-SoCon, including first titleholder Josh Williams.
Lindsey then spent four years in Palmetto State, working at Furman University from 2012-15. He coached the Paladins’ defensive line for three seasons before adding the title of assistant chief coach in his last season in Greenville. He mentored Gary Wilkins’ defensive side in the honors of All-America in 2014 and in a contract with the Oakland Raiders. Lindsey also helped Furman win a Southern Conference championship in 2013.
Lindsey spent the 2016 season at Georgia Southern, working as a defensive line coach, before heading to Western Kentucky.
Lindsey also had the opportunity to work with four NFL teams (Cleveland – 2006; Detroit – 2008; Denver – 2010; San Diego – 2013) on the Minority Coaching Internship program.
Lindsey was a linebacker in Chattanooga from 1996-99, serving as a team captain in his senior season and received the Marco Sheppard Mr. Hustle award from UTC. He graduated in 2001 in sports administration.
Born on August 22, 1977, Lindsey is married to ex-Lauren Thomas. He has a daughter, Kiara.
