Formally unveiled in July 2020 and commercially launched in the United States just a few months ago, the Asus ROG Phone 3 for hardcore gaming could have an even more powerful following in the very near future.

Can a design change and is a name change underway?

An early launch would allow the Taiwan-based company to take on the first wave of “conventional” flagships from leading smartphone vendors like Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi, for a change, although if history is any indication, the ROG Phone 4 could see daylight in China several months before Western markets like the USA.

That and the decidedly unconventional designs of the first three members of the Asus ROG Phone family should be enough to kill the global appeal of the next edition … unless, of course, it is really defined to look more like a normal “2021” “next-generation smartphone. This seems to be what Asus is alluding to on Weibo, although we are obviously not entirely sure at the moment that the ROG Phone 4 will in fact come with a thin “chin” and virtually no screen frame on the top and on both sides.

Then again, we can’t even be sure that this bad boy will be nicknamed Asus ROG Phone 4 as opposed to ROG Phone 5, with the model number I005DA apparently suggesting the last nickname. In case you are wondering, the ROG Phone 3 is also known by the designation I003D and skipping a digit (or several) has become almost a common practice in the mobile industry in recent years.

Extremely fast SoC, breakthrough charging speeds and another incredible battery

This major improvement would put the Asus ROG Phone 4 (or ROG Phone 5) on a par with others Huawei Mate 40 Pro and Oppo Reno 5 Pro while overcoming everything from the Samsung Galaxy S21 family to Xiaomi Mi 11 and even the next OnePlus 9 Pro in terms of wired charging technology.
The next generation of the ROG Phone is also suggested (although not confirmed at the moment) to pack a 6,000 mAh battery, which looks absolutely colossal by mainstream conventional phone standards. Of course, this is not your typical high-end device family, which is why Asus has already equipped the ROG Phone 3 and ROG Phone 2 with a gigantic cell of 6,000 mAh.

In the meantime, it goes without saying that 5G speeds will be part of this gaming package, along with Qualcomm’s next-generation Snapdragon 888 processor and at least 8 GB of memory. The basic configuration of 8 GB of RAM was compared in its undoubtedly unfinished and unpolished form just over a month ago, you see, already running Android 11 on the software side, which is another sign that the device may be ready for prime time sooner or later .
