Woman arrested at DC opening checkpoint said she was a cabinet member, police said

A woman who pretended to be “part of the presidential office” was arrested at a tenure checkpoint in Washington, DC, on Saturday morning.

Linda Magovern, 63, was accused of impersonating a police officer, did not obey and ran away from a police officer after appearing at the checkpoint while in a car, reports NBC Washington.

Magovern displayed “a round metallic object later identified as the Military Police’s Challenge Coin” and said it was part of law enforcement, according to a police report. After initially obeying when asked to park the car, Magovern left when asked to provide his license, according to a police report obtained by NBC News.

The police eventually stopped her and took her to a hospital for evaluation, the police said.

DC police did not return a request for comment and it was not immediately clear whether Magovern has a lawyer.

His arrest came at a time when security increased dramatically in DC, following the Capitol rebellion and President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, just days away. The National Guard increased troop levels to 25,000, as much of the city is closed, with restricted traffic and checkpoints.

Police on Friday arrested a man with an unregistered gun and hundreds of rounds of ammunition at an inauguration checkpoint.
