Falcons fans have suffered a lot in the past five seasons: unprecedented highs and unimaginable lows. But here we are, looking forward to a better future, where we will not put Tom Brady on record.
The future of the franchise is in the air now. It remains to be seen whether we are experiencing a rapid resurgence or a lengthy reconstruction. But the decision to hire former Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith as the next coach makes sense and seems like a step in the right direction. Smith did wonders for the Titans’ attack, making Ryan Tannehill look like an above-average quarterback and maximizing Derek Henry’s output. That said, we won’t really know if this was a good contract for at least a year or two. But Smith appears to be checking several boxes.
As we here at The Falcoholic care about what you think about the things that this team does, we ask for your opinion on the hiring. (Spoiler alert: most of you are cautiously optimistic.)
Dave “Skinny Jeans” Choate wrote an article asking a similar question after the hiring announcement on Friday afternoon, getting an almost identical answer. (Only 24 percent of voters were either apathetic or against hiring.)
I have to give credit to whom credit is certainly due: Falcons fans are a resilient group. You can take them down ten times and they will keep going up. After all the hawk-related headaches they have suffered in the past five years, they are still willing to be optimistic about what comes next. Smith has a limited, though impressive, track record. He’s young and respected, which builds a lot of confidence, but there are no right things in the NFL. In a perfect world, the cautious optimism of the fan base will be rewarded. Let’s hope that happens.
