Along with Washington’s money, Albany’s money will soon reach Long Island and other parts of the state for major infrastructure projects.
Governor Andrew Cuomo unveiled a $ 300 billion multi-year infrastructure proposal on Friday. For Long Island, much of the money will go towards adding a third line along a 16-kilometer stretch to Long Island Rail Road at Hicksville station west of Floral Park. This project is already underway.
“The big concern is that with the drop in passenger numbers due to the pandemic and the loss of revenue, they would stop funding it. This will not interrupt the project. bright future, “says Marc Herbst of the Long Island Contractors Association.
State money will also flow to the Bay Park Sewage Treatment Plant in southwestern Nassau County.
“With the Bay Park transportation project, this will clean the environment. There will be a 50% reduction in nitrates ”, says Cuomo.
Even though the state is facing a billion-dollar budget deficit, Cuomo says that spending billions on these projects is smart because it will put more people to work and will also have a positive psychological effect.
“Building new projects, improving day-to-day activities, seeing progress also raises people’s spirits,” says Cuomo.
Separately, President-elect Joe Biden is proposing billions for infrastructure projects, which could mean money for road and highway projects across the island and the state.
