Walmart in Visalia closes at the weekend for cleaning and sanitizing

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) – One after another, people looking to shop at the Visalia Walmart Supercenter on Mooney Boulevard are being rejected.

The store is closed and Walmart employees say it will stay that way for the entire weekend – while cleaning crews work to sanitize the entire building.

“The Super Walmart in Mooney does a lot of business and impacts people,” said Visalia Mayor Steve Nelson.

The authorities have not confirmed whether the closure was related to an outbreak of COVID, but said so in a statement – “All we are doing is for the well-being of our associates and customers and in consideration of the guidance from the Centers for Disease Specialists in control (CDC) and health. We will continue to work closely with elected and local health officials, adjusting the way we serve the community. “

Nelson says he is still waiting to find out the cause of the closure.

“I read your press release,” he said. “They talk about the pandemic, but it has never been consolidated that it is because of a COVID situation.”

Many buyers were redirected to Walmart’s location on Avenida Nobel.

Late Saturday afternoon, the parking lot was packed.

“If you’re worried, there are different ways to shop,” said Nelson. “You can shop online, you can go to local businesses, there are fewer people packed inside the store.”

The Walmart Supercenter in Mooney is due to reopen on Monday at 7am.
