Among racing enthusiasts, few Porsches are given greater consideration than the 935 Moby Dick, a heavily modified and track-ready 911 that owes its literary nickname to its longtail design. But, as revered as the car may be, Bisimoto saw room for improvement.
The California-based aftermarket has just announced the Moby X, a futuristic tribute to the legendary pilot. And the new design is not the only area in which the pilot differs from his inspiration; it will also be powered by a fully electric power train.

The original Moby Dick was a model 935 from 1978 – the factory version of the 911 – which was an accessory in endurance racing like the 24 Hours of Le Mans throughout the late 1970s and 1980s. Thanks to a Martinelli painting by racing and an ultra-aerodynamic body that included the rear “whale’s tail”, the car greatly impressed racing fans and is now seen as one of the most iconic drivers in Porsche history. So it’s no surprise that Bisimoto’s founder, Bisi Ezerioha, wants to pay tribute to the car.
More surprising are the freedoms that Ezerioha and his collaborators, a group that includes designer Errolson Hugh and digital artist Khyzyl Saleem, took with Moby X, still in development. Although it is very savvy based on Moby Dick, it is not a perfect recreation in. Both vehicles share the same general shape, but the tribute lacks the huge rear wing of the original, is equipped with LED lighting and replaced the Martinelli color scheme with a more sinister painting in black, gray and white.

The most radical deviation, however, is not visible at first. Moby X will be powered by a fully electric motor that draws its energy from a 32 kWh battery, according to Designboom. Although specific details are not available at the moment, the car will be able to produce 635 horses, which should make it as powerful as the original Moby Dick.
Bisimoto Engenharia has not yet announced when the car will be ready, in addition to saying that it should be this year. Expect another official debut date, along with more technical information, in the near future.
