Apple CEO Tim Cook will appear in Fox News Sunday this weekend with Chris Wallace, the network announced today. During the interview, Cook will talk about Apple’s decision to remove Parler from the App Store, as well as the broad idea of ”great technology restricting freedom of expression”.
In a pair of teaser clips shared by Fox News Before the full interview launched on Sunday, Cook and Wallace debated the balance between freedom of speech and questionable content. Cook doubled in his previous claims that if Parler implements a moderation policy, the app could return to the App Store:
Wallace: “How did you decide to balance freedom of speech with questionable content?”
Cook: “We look at the incitement to violence that was there and we – we don’t consider freedom of speech and incitement to have one – have an intersection.”
Wallace: “What about the argument that taking Parler out of Apple, in addition to what other companies are doing, are you just taking these people, these visions further?”
Cook: “Well, we just suspended them, Chris. And then, if – if they got their temper, they would be back there. “
Cook also stated his belief that great technology “is not monolithic” because there are several companies in the industry:
Cook: “Great technology is not monolithic. You know, there are several companies. They do different things. For us, we are always trying to do the right thing. “
Wallace: “Doesn’t Big Tech restrict freedom of expression?”
Cook: “We have an app store with about 2 million apps. And we have terms of service for those apps. Obviously, we do not control what is on the internet, but we have never seen that our platform should be a simple replication of the internet. We have rules and regulations and we just ask people to follow them ”.
This happened after Cook appeared earlier this week in CBS This Morning to talk about Apple’s new Racial Equity and Justice Initiative projects, as well as the US Capitol insurrection and Parler’s subsequent removal from the App Store.
The interview with Tim Cook will air on Fox News Sunday at 9am ET, but times may vary according to the market. Watch the two teaser clips below.
