Fallout’s greatest mod ever launched after seven years of development, and immediately crashes the popular mod site • Eurogamer.net

The highly anticipated Fallout New Vegas mod, The Frontier, launched yesterday – and immediately paralyzed the popular mod site Nexus.

Even now, a few hours after its launch, The Frontier’s NexusMods page is broken.

The Frontier, which has been in development for seven years, is the greatest mod of all time for a Fallout game. The launch trailer is below:

You fight in the frozen and snow-covered deserts of Portland Oregon under the flag of the New California Republic, the Caesars Legion or the Crusaders of Steel. The Frontier is described as a “new game size” mod and features airships (something that Bethesda games don’t have), voice acting, new characters and many missions.

But the launch was not smooth. NexusMods went offline for much of yesterday, and although it is online now, The Frontier’s NexusMods page is blank.

The initial plan was to release The Frontier on Steam at the same time, but the release was postponed until next week. Some of those who managed to get the mod up and running reported technical difficulties, so it is advisable to wait for the release of Steam anyway.

Despite these initial problems, what is clear is that there is a keen interest in a traditional single player Fallout experience at a time when Bethesda’s focus is on multiplayer Fallout 76. Perhaps the company, now under the banner of Microsoft, of course, has a group of people working on what will be the next official Fallout game.
