As a child, Matt Shakman spent a lot of time behind the scenes in Hollywood, acting in ‘80s and ‘90s sitcoms like The facts of life, Night Cutand Only the ten of us. As the director of the new Disney Plus series WandaVision, he is synthesizing a vintage Hollywood aesthetic in Marvel’s cinematic universe using the classic sitcom tropes and sets he knows so well to create a whole new world.
For the video above, The AV Club talked to Shakman about exactly that and the classic sitcom training ground he went through WandaVision Elizabeth Olsen stars, Paul Bettany, Kathryn Hahn and the rest of the cast. We also talked about lunch that changed his life with Kevin Feige and Dick Van Dyke, and what life was like for a child riding a bicycle in the Warner Bros. parking lot.
The first two episodes of WandaVision arrived at Disney Plus on Friday, January 15, with new episodes appearing every Friday thereafter.
