TUCSON (KVOA) – Pima County is moving to a new system for its COVID-19 vaccination record helpline.
The new phone number is 520-222-0119.
The former number (520-594-5684) will no longer have employees, said Pima County.
The new number will work this weekend and on the holiday of Martin Luther King Jr., January 18, from 8 am to 5 pm
The normal extended helpline hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm
Kathryn Saunders has been struggling to get an appointment for more than 48 hours. Mark Evans of Pima County says he is trying to solve the problems.
“The volume of calls was much higher than we had anticipated, the normal system was not able to handle the load, so there were a lot of problems connecting,” said Evans.
The county is asking people to apply online. Saunders doesn’t have a computer, e-mail or even Internet access. Evans said it is an entirely different challenge.
“For people who don’t have a computer or e-mail, we don’t have a solution to be vaccinated. You will need an ability to receive an alert, ”said Evans.
Evans told News 4 Tucson that they are working to have walk-ins available as soon as there is enough vaccine.
