Tesla told employees to liquidate Model S and Model X inventory by the end of the month, as a significant update now appears likely.
Model S and Model X inventory
Electrek learned from sources familiar with the matter that Tesla instructed employees to sell all Model S and Model X inventory in stores in all markets.
Tesla plans to have absolutely no Model S or Model X in stock by the end of the month.
It should be possible, as Tesla has not produced new Model S and Model X vehicles in almost a month due to a production stoppage in its flagship electric sedan and SUV lines.
The change is unusual at the start of a new quarter and intensifies rumors of a design update.

Tesla Model S / X project update
In the past few months, we have reported extensively on rumors of a possible Model S and Model X design update that have increased recently – especially since Tesla announced that the Model S Plaid will require several major changes.
In December, we also reported on Tesla significantly increasing the delivery schedule and the price of the Model S and Model X going to Europe in March.
In addition, we learned that Tesla extended the S / X production holiday stoppage until early January, leading some to believe that the automaker is upgrading the production line to produce a new version of the electric sedan.
As we reported earlier, Tesla has a ‘secret Palladium project’, which included working on new production lines for the Model S and Model X last year.
In 2018, we reported on Tesla working on a significant interior design update for the Model S and Model X that was planned for summer 2019.
This update was postponed because Tesla focused all of its resources on producing the Model 3, but now many think that it may be the moment that Tesla finally updates the design of the Model S and perhaps the Model X at the same time.
At the time, the planned update included a new horizontal central display, a smaller instrument panel and a focus on cutting-edge materials within the vehicles.
