The opening of Japan’s Super Nintendo World was delayed by less than a month

It’s time to hit the reset button.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, theme parks around the world had to close, change plans and, in some cases, close everything again. And now, a new theme park in Japan, due to open next month, had its opening postponed in February due to an increase in local cases.

The opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan, originally scheduled for February 4, will be postponed indefinitely, reports Bloomberg. The news came after Japan recently expanded its state of emergency to include Osaka Prefecture, where the park is located.

The state of emergency will be in effect until at least February 7.

A few days ago, Universal Studios Japan launched a virtual tour of the new theme park in anticipation of its now postponed opening. The tour begins by showing users an area of the park based on Bowser’s castle from the popular Super Mario Bros. franchise.

The theme park attractions are based on some of Nintendo’s most popular properties, with an apparent emphasis on the company’s mascot, Super Mario. The tours will allow guests to recreate game experiences like “Mario Kart” and “Yoshi’s Adventure”.

The park will also have interactive areas where visitors can buy special bands that allow them to collect virtual coins, stamps and other video game-inspired power ups.
