OHA says it reached the governor’s goal of 12,000 vaccinations a day last week
PORTLAND, Oregon. (KTVZ) – There are 29 new COVID-19-related deaths in Oregon, increasing the number of deaths in the state to 1,737, along with 1,152 new cases and more than 16,000 new vaccinations, the Oregon Health Authority reported on Thursday.
The OHA reported 1,152 new confirmed and presumed cases of COVID-19 at 0:01 am on Thursday, bringing the state total to 130,246.
Vaccinations in Oregon
On Thursday, the Health Authority reported that 16,355 new doses of COVID-19 vaccines were added to the state’s immunization registry. Of that total, 10,172 doses of vaccine were administered on Wednesday and 6,183 were administered in previous days, but entered the vaccine register on Wednesday.
Based on the updated totals, OHA announced that vaccination sites across the state met Governor Kate Brown’s goal of ensuring 12,000 vaccinations a day by the end of last week. Vaccine providers in Oregon administered 12,039 total doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines on Friday, January 8. The governor demanded that the benchmark be met by the end of the two-week period that started on January 4.
Cumulative daily totals can take several days to complete because providers have 72 hours to report administered doses and technical challenges have caused many providers to delay reporting. The Health Authority has provided technical support to vaccination sites to improve the opportunity for their data entry into the state’s ALERT Immunization Information System (IIS).
“Although we have reached the governor’s goal of reaching 12,000 vaccines administered in one day last week,” said OHA Director Patrick Allen, “we want to maintain and expand our daily totals. The state cannot achieve our goal of providing vaccines quickly, efficiently and equitably, on its own. I am grateful for the hard work that staff from hospitals, local health clinics and other places have put in increasing vaccination for Oregon residents. Vaccines are the safest and most effective way to end this pandemic. “
Oregon has administered a cumulative total of 146,137 first and second doses of COVID-19 vaccines. All vaccinations were administered by Oregon hospitals, long-term care facilities, emergency medical service agencies (EMS), urgent care facilities and Local Public Health Authorities (LPHAs).
To date, 321,425 doses of the vaccine have been delivered to locations in Oregon.
These data are preliminary and are subject to change. OHA panels provide regularly updated vaccination data.
St. Charles reported that it gave 5,456 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on Thursday. The hospital’s system also announced on Wednesday that those included in the Phase 1a priority group can now schedule vaccine appointments directly on its website.
COVID-19 Hospitalizations
The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 across Oregon is 415, which is 19 less than on Wednesday. There are 101 patients with COVID-19 in intensive care unit (ICU) beds, two less than on Wednesday.
The total number of patients in hospital beds can fluctuate between reporting times. The figures do not reflect hospitalizations per day, nor the length of stay. Personnel limitations are not captured in this data and can further limit the capacity of beds.

St. Charles Bend reported 39 patients with COVID-19 by 4 am on Thursday, with nine in the ICU, seven on ventilators.
