The New York-born superstar – who campaigned for Biden during the election – was confirmed to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the inauguration ceremony next Wednesday, the inaugural committee told Variety.
New Yorker Jennifer Lopez is another star involved, although details of her performance have not been revealed.
Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, has long supported Biden, and even campaigned for him in Pittsburgh in November, saying, “Vote for Joe. He is a good person. “
After her election victory was announced, she posted a photo of them hugging, saying that he and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris “just gave the world one of the greatest acts of kindness and bravery that humanity has ever seen.”
“Nothing but love for our new commander in chief and the first elected vice president for the White House,” she wrote.
Gaga also has history singing the national anthem for millions, having been widely praised for her performance at the 2016 Super Bowl.
Along with Gaga and Lopez, Variety suggests that other stars may also be announced later, when Hollywood embraces the new Democratic leader.
Tom Hanks will also present a prime-time 90-minute TV special for the opening, with stars like Justin Timberlake, Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Lovato and Ant Clemons.
Joining Gaga and Lopez at the inauguration, Andrea Hall, a career firefighter, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, while the first National Young Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman, will recite a poem, the committee announced.
Father Leo O’Donovan will make an invocation, while Reverend Dr. Silvester Beaman will give a blessing. Both are longtime friends of Biden.
“They represent a clear picture of the great diversity of our great nation,” said the opening team in a statement on Thursday.
“They are also committed to the unshakable vision of the President-elect and the Vice-president-elect for a new chapter in our American history in which we are an America united to overcome the deep divisions and challenges faced by our people, to unify the country and restore the soul of our nation, ”added the statement.
