Kyle Flood should join Steve Sarkisian’s Texas team as OL offensive coordinator / coach, sources say

Texas is expected to hire Alabama assistant and former Rutgers coach Kyle Flood as its new offensive coordinator and offensive line coach under Steve Sarkisian, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Flood has spent the past two seasons in Alabama, which won a national title on Monday night against Ohio State. He worked alongside Sarkisian with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017 and 2018 – Sarkisian served as offensive coordinator and Flood trained the offensive line – before joining Nick Saban’s team in Alabama.

Flood, 49, served as the last coordinator at Rutgers in 2009 and 2010. He later became the head coach of Rutgers, ranging from 27 to 24 in four seasons.

Horns 247 first reported that Texas should hire Flood.

Sarkisian, Alabama’s offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and winner of the Broyles Award in 2020, is expected to remain Texas’s offensive scorer.

“I definitely want to be the top scorer. I will be the top scorer,” Sarkisian recently told the Austin American-Statesman. “I made that mistake one year of my career [in 2015 at USC]. It will not happen again, not in the near future. But the reality is, part of the reason [athletic director Chris Del Conte] and people in Texas liked me because of the work I was doing as a playcaller. Suddenly, why would I give up one of the best features I have? “

Sarkisian is also expected to bring Alabama offensive analyst AJ Milwee to Texas, where he will train defenders, sources told ESPN. Milwee spent seven seasons as Akron’s offensive coordinator before coming to Alabama.

ESPN’s David Wilson contributed to this report.
