Wendy Williams spoke for the first time about how she was raped.

While promoting her next biopic Lifetime, Wendy Williams: The Movie, the 56-year-old talk show host told reporters that she was sexually abused by R&B singer Sherrick, who was popular in the late 1980s and died in 1999.

The former DJ added that she was “mesmerized” by him when they met and agreed to go out with him before she was raped, according to People.

Wendy didn’t say when that happened, but Sherrick’s career was active in the late eighties, which means that Wendy was probably in her early twenties at the time.

Speaking to reporters during a panel promoting the film – which will air on January 30 – Wendy said: ‘He mesmerized me with his sparkling eyes.’

She added: ‘He turned the interview over to where he was interviewing me.

‘I was just dizzy with this man and he invited me to an opening party, an album launch party, with him that night.’

She then said, ‘And before the party, I was raped by him.’

Sherrick, who was born F Lamonte-Smith in 1957, had a hit song, Just Call. The artist died in 1999 at the age of 41, after more than a decade of drug problems.

He left behind his wife Lynne Conner-Smith and three children, Kiriandra, Paris and Chance Smith.

Wendy also revealed that she was raped during college. She attended Northeastern University in Boston from 1982 to 1986.

Williams added: ‘That kind of thing happens to girls all the time. And they have been happening a lot with many of our mothers, grandmothers, great-grandparents and their great-grandmothers too. ‘

The biopic will also feature Wendy’s relationship and the eventual divorce of Kevin Hunter, whom she married in 1997 and divorced in 2019.

And although the romance ended badly, Wendy insisted that she “doesn’t regret” the time they spent together.

She added: ‘The life I am living now is my best life, and it is not my fault to say that. I don’t regret meeting Kevin, I don’t regret falling in love, I don’t regret having stayed with him for 25 years, 21 of them being married.

‘I like who I am, so I have no regrets.’

Wendy will be played in the film by Ciera Payton, while Morocco Omari will star as Kevin Hunter.

The talk show host was the executive producer of the film and is pleased that she was able to “clear up half-truths and untruths”.

She said: ‘I was able to clarify half truths and untruths. When you think you know, you watch a biopic and learn a lot more – and for me, I wanted to be very sincere.
