Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday returns to her daytime talk show for the first time in 2021 after battling the coronavirus.
DeGeneres, 62, revealed on December 10 that she tested positive for COVID-19. Despite “feeling good” at the time, she confirmed that she would not return to the screen before the holidays.
Upon returning to the stage, DeGeneres wishes viewers a “Happy New Year” and discusses his experience with COVID-19.
“Obviously, there are a lot of negative things going on, so instead, I want to talk about something positive: my COVID test. I tested positive before the holidays. I’m fine now, it’s okay. I’m fine. I want to thank everyone who extended hand with kind words of support. I wish I could have hugged each of you. That would have been dangerous and probably illegal, “laughs DeGeneres.

The daytime host continues to explain that he learned of the positive test result while in the studio. She said Wednesday’s audience is the same group that was almost present in mid-December, but due to her diagnosis, the episode was postponed.
“So, okay, this is what happened, guys. I was getting ready to record the show you were going to be here for. I was in hair and makeup and putting on face powder and putting on my extensions. So my assistant Craig came in and says, ‘You tested positive for COVID.’ And then everyone around me fled. It’s funny that people are really scared. Some haven’t come back since. Anyway, I left the studio immediately and our COVID security team informed everyone I had contact with, “she explains. .
DeGeneres jokes that his executive producer “literally ran out of the studio at full speed” after he learned of the positive test result.
DeGeneres said she was then quarantined at home away from his wife, Portia de Rossi, who slept in a different bed.

The host continued to share that she slept “16 hours a day” during the first three days of her COVID-19 battle. On the fourth day, she started experiencing severe back pain.

She went on to say that her doctor finally prescribed her a steroid pack, in addition to muscle relaxants and pain relievers.
“What’s about steroids: they make you very fast and nervous, so the best thing to do, I decided, was to continue with muscle relaxants and painkillers with the steroid pack to balance it out. I don’t know if that’s the best way. I’m not a doctor, but that’s what I did “, she continues.
DeGeneres adds that he has since heard of other people who have had back pain as a symptom of COVID-19.

“I’m not saying that if you have back pain, you have COVID, but it’s a symptom. It’s the only symptom I had. I didn’t have a headache, I didn’t have a fever, I didn’t lose my sense of taste. Although I have used crocodiles for a day, so you’re the judge, “she adds.
DeGeneres concludes that she is “very lucky” to be better, but is still curious as to where she got the new coronavirus.

“I use a mask, I wash my hands, I only licked three or four doorknobs, so it’s a mystery to me how that would happen,” she jokes, along with a message for those who still suffer from the disease. “My heart is with them all as always. I hope this show will give you a little joy, brighten your day.”
