On Monday, Russian prison authorities sent an official request to a court asking for the replacement of his suspended sentence in a case years ago with a real sentence.
The Russian Federal Prison Service said that while staying in Germany, Navalny was violating the terms of his suspended sentence in the so-called Yves Roche case, which Navalny believes is politically motivated.
In a video address posted on his Instagram account, the activist said that new criminal cases brought against him in Russia were “proven to be fabricated” and an attempt to prevent him from returning to his country.
The anti-corruption activist is currently in Germany after receiving treatment at the Charite clinic in Berlin.
Navalny was poisoned with the Novichok toxin in August and almost died. The Kremlin has repeatedly denied any involvement.
Russia launched a new charge of fraud and threat of imprisonment against Navalny in late 2020, increasing pressure on him.
