The official synopsis for the Amazon TV series Lord of the Ring has been revealed, giving fans a glimpse of what their next Middle-earth adventure will be like. The plot synopsis was obtained by TheOneRing.Net and confirmed by IGN, and while it does not give many new details, it does mention some of the locations that will be presented at the show, including the Misty Mountains, Lindon and Númenor.The complete synopsis is as follows;

“The next series from Amazon Studios brings to the screen for the first time the heroic legends of the legendary Second Age of Middle-earth history. This epic drama takes place thousands of years before the events of JRR Tolkien The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, and it will take viewers back to an era when great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest thread, and the greatest villain who ever flowed from the Tolkien threatened to cover the whole world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows a cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they face the feared resurgence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Dark Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the ends of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve legacies that will live long after they are gone. “

The prequel to The Lord of the Rings from Amazon will take place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, which stretches over a long period of time between the original Dark Lord Morgoth and the first defeat of his servant Sauron.
