YouTube suspends Trump’s ability to upload content indefinitely

YouTube said on Tuesday that it has removed new content from President Trump’s official channel and will prevent uploading videos for at least a week.

The company, which is owned by Google, said the decision was made “after review and in light of concerns about the continued potential for violence” following a pro-Trump riot that violated the United States Capitol on January 6.

“Given ongoing concerns about violence, we will also indefinitely disable comments on President Trump’s channel, as we did with other channels where there are security concerns found in the comments section,” added YouTube.

Officials in Washington, DC reported “credible threats” of more violence related to President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration next week.

YouTube’s decision follows other technology companies like Twitter and Facebook, which permanently or temporarily disabled Trump’s accounts after Wednesday’s riots.

YouTube, which did not explain the content of the offending video, said it was the “first scam” of the account.
