West Stanly men’s basketball improves to 2-0 with victory on the road – The Stanly News & Press

The quick start of Monday’s street game for the West Stanly men’s basketball team led to a Colts victory.

West opened with an 8-0 streak and never lost in the 73-49 victory at South Stanly.

Austin Medlin led the Colts (2-0) with 21 points, hitting 5 of 6 on the free-throw line, while Trevor Kelly added 17 points by hitting five times beyond the three-point arc. Jake Bartell scored 13 points for West and led the team with seven rebounds.

Carson Lowder was the game’s top scorer and the Bulls (0-2) with 23 points hitting nine field shots, including three marks from the three-point arc.

West coach John Thompson said that both teams played tough adding Kelly “hit three early on that helped us build a small advantage, but our focus on defense was not as good as it should be … we were too better in the third quarter with our defense intensity. ”

Thompson added that if West can “continue to improve in defense and have a slightly better shot selection, we have a chance to be a really good team.”

West Stanly opens the Rocky River Conference game on Friday at home against Forest Hills.
