Also, have they talked about how they are going to introduce mutants?
After a year without Marvel films, fans are ready for everything the MCU has to offer in 2021. From Disney + programs like WandaVision for movies like Eternals, there are many interesting things on the agenda this year, and much more where it came from in the coming years, with films like Thor: love and thunder and a new MCU adaptation of The fantastic four. It’s always fascinating to know that, while we’re sitting here now with some knowledge of what’s on the horizon for the MCU, the Marvel Studios folks are quietly working on many other projects that are currently under wraps.
For example, the huge and busy Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame saga started in 2014, when the public was introduced to the Guardians of the Galaxy.
So when Steve Weintraub of Collider spoke to the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige recently on press day for WandaVision – which opens at Disney + January 15 – he asked Feige how far Marvel planned its next films and TV shows.
“In varying degrees of specificity, it is always about 5 to 6 years compared to what we have announced. So, whatever that takes us ”.
So now, right now, the people at Marvel Studios are thinking about ideas that will become Disney + movies or programs in 2025 and 2026. Obviously, a big part of Marvel’s success is its willingness to be flexible, so that’s not to say that these plans are set in stone. But they have some idea of what the next five or six years will look like in terms of MCU content.
A cornerstone of this is undoubtedly the introduction of mutants in the MCU. Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox finally brought the X-Men comics under the supervision of Marvel Studios, and now Feige and Co. begin to figure out how to introduce the notion of X-Men and mutants in the Marvel cinematic universe. Previously, they were limited, as Fox owned all mutant-related material and therefore Disney and Marvel Studios were not allowed to even pronounce the word “mutant” in an MCU movie. Now, everything is on the table.
We asked Feige if they have already figured out how they are bringing mutants into the Marvel cinematic universe, and he seemed to suggest that the introduction of mutants is very much under discussion in the coming years:
“It was much discussed, as you can imagine. And we have a good feeling of where it is going and when it is going, but everything is yet to be seen. ”
It’s not like we don’t have much to look forward to with all of Marvel’s upcoming movies and TV shows, but given the studio’s stellar history, fans can’t wait to see what they’ll do with the mutants and the X-Men. Have patience, guys. Is coming.
In the meantime, the first new MCU story in more than a year arrives this Friday, when the first two episodes of WandaVision debuts exclusively at Disney +.
