Disneyland now a ‘super’ COVID-19 vaccine site

The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim will serve as Orange County’s first ‘dispensing superpoint’ (POD) site for COVID-19 vaccinations, launching operations later this week, officials announced on Monday.

Disneyland and four other regional locations will soon administer thousands of vaccines every day to residents most vulnerable to the poor results of the disease. The authorities will announce the other locations as the agreements are concluded.

Eligible for Phase 1a vaccinations include first responders and individuals aged 75 or older, as established by the state health department. Authorities said that priority vaccine recipients would be contacted to schedule appointments through an application; walk-ups will not be served, according to a statement.

Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu said the super site will begin to ease the city’s health crisis and accelerate the economic recovery.

Orange County has reported more than 190,000 cases of coronavirus and at least 2,000 deaths, while 2,277 patients with COVID-19 are in hospital care, according to data from the state health department. These numbers contribute to the 2.7 million cases and almost 30,000 deaths recorded in the state.
