Songs inspired by Lowcountry and South Carolina

Living in Lowcountry is definitely unique. Of many beautiful beaches, to nice food and culture, it is not difficult to believe that Charleston could inspire a song (or two or three). We have put together some songs that are Lowcountry Artists or songs that are simply inspired by the coastal city + Palmetto State.

Dive and play outside to these songs that will certainly put Carolina in your mind.

🎡 β€œYou can have charleston”| Darius Rucker | It’s no secret – Darius Rucker, once a member of the popular group Hootie and the Blowfish, is a jewel of Charleston + living legend (there is even a street with his name). Hear him paint a picture of a Charleston scene that includes The battery, cobblestone streets, oak trees + more.

🎡 β€œSink ‘Em Low”| Ranky Tanky | This Gullah musical group from Lowcountry perfectly incorporates Gullah culture + history in this song with the sound of jazz, rhythm and blues + more. Music is full of Charleston’s soul.

🎡 ”Carolina coast”| Jimmy Buffet | The coastal city we live in may have inspired Jimmy Buffet to sing this song + some people may have seen him surfing Folly Beach years ago.

🎡 β€œUnder the boardwalk”| The Drifters | Did you know that there is a state dance called “The shag”? This song about fun + admiring the sidewalk is known to accompany the dance of the state. The mention of the music to admire the boardwalk makes it a timeless beach tune.

🎡 β€œCarolina in the morning”| Judy Garland | “Nothing could be better than being in Carolina in the morning …” This song speaks of the appreciation of being in the Carolinas.

🎡 β€œWaltz for a girl in South Carolina”| Brett Shady | This singer talks about the β€œsweet summer wind” in South Carolina + a girl from the state of Palmetto that he can’t stop thinking about.

🎡 β€œSouth Carolina Blues”| Junior League Band | This song about the β€œSouth Carolina Blues” is joyful and fun to hear + includes several instruments throughout the song.

🎡 β€œCarolina County Ball”| Elf | Imagine a “Carolina County Ball” in a “boogie woogie Friday night”. This song is exactly as the title describes, a party with friends in good old Carolina.

🎡 β€œAscending Water”| The High Divers | Ever wanted to make a song about all the floods that occur in the Holy City? This local rock band did just that.

🎡 β€œThe Twist”| Chubby Checker | How can you have a Lowcountry-inspired playlist without the South Carolina native Chubby Checker? This 1960s song became a huge hit (and it’s still classical dance music today). Come on, do The Twist.
