In 2014, a Twitch user became a game of Pokémon Red in a co-op experience with thousands of players. TwitchPlaysPokémon used crowdsourcing commands to move around the game world, culminating in the defeat of the Elite Four and capturing all 151 Pokémon in the original series. Gameloft 3D programmer Constantin Liétard is attempting a similar feat, this time through Twitter.
Liétard’s version is developed through his avatar – the image is updated with the progress of the game as players fight and travel Pokémon Redworld of. To play, users tweet commands – up, down, start, select and so on – on an ongoing topic. Comments are pulled every 15 seconds, Liétard tweeted, with the most commented directive being inserted into the game. Users can discuss the strategy on a Discord Liétard channel created specifically for the game.
You can now play Pokémon Red on my avatar!

The game started on January 8. Based on how long it took Twitch to finish Pokémon Red, it will probably take a while.
