Extension of the unemployment benefit pandemic begins in South Carolina

COLOMBIA, SC (WRDW / WAGT) – The Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program extension is now active in South Carolina.

Over the weekend, the state Department of Employment and Workforce began issuing payments to applicants who had exhausted their 39 weeks provided by the CARES Act.

The extension made available through the Continued Assistance Act for Unemployed Workers will provide an additional 11 weeks of benefits.

This increases the maximum number of weeks of Pandemic Unemployment Assistance benefits from 39 to 50. People who receive benefits as part of this extension will also receive the $ 300 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation in addition to the weekly benefit amount.

Eligible claimants’ funds were retroactive to ensure that they received the benefits of the January 2 and 9 January application weeks.
