Panasonic hopes to win over the crowd of gamers with its flashy new OLED. Get a ticket, buddy.

Panasonic says the new JZ2000 OLED, which will be released in 55 and 65 inch screen sizes, will have higher average and peak brightness levels, an improved sound system with side speakers and superior shooting, as well as features focused on variable refresh rate (VRR). It is unclear whether the screen also supports other HDMI 2.1 features, such as Automatic Low Latency Mode (ALLM). (We ask Panasonic and we will update when we hear back.) But it will have features through its own Game Mode Extreme that work to reduce latency and provide a smoother gaming experience.

The OLED will also be launched with a new processor called HCX Pro AI, which, according to Panasonic, analyzes and improves the quality of sound and image in real time. Like other TV manufacturers, building up enthusiasm for powerful new processors and increased AI this year, Panasonic says its TV will be able to adjust sound and images to make them more realistic. It also comes with a Filmmaker Mode that adjusts image settings based on ambient light environments.

As for its sound capabilities, Panasonic says its flagship OLED 2021 will include speakers in the side-shot and magnification unit that can provide a Dolby Atmos experience. This is quite a statement, and it is very difficult to obtain height without the addition of surround speakers. But the company says that the JZ2000 can produce “directional sounds” thanks in part to the addition of more speakers than those included in previous models.

On the feature front, the JZ2000 will come equipped with the latest version of its native My Home Screen operating system, which also features a new user interface. OLED also supports Dolby Vision IQ, Dolby Vision, HDR10 + and HLG Photo, as well as voice control features. In addition, a nifty feature called Dual Bluetooth Connection will allow two people to connect two different Bluetooth devices, such as headsets, to the TV at the same time for quiet, shared listening.

Panasonic says it has not yet finalized its distribution plans for the US and no price has been announced. But at least on the gaming front, Panasonic definitely has some competition.
