South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley spoke and wrote about race and social injustice in the United States and the world of college basketball.

Last Friday, two days after the US Capitol riots, she spoke to The Athletic about her team’s ongoing protest this season – in which 10 players sat during the national anthem to “light up” racism, racial inequality and social injustice – and the public’s reaction to that.
