House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized President Donald Trump and House Republicans after the deadly siege of the United States Capitol on January 6.
In a “60-minute” interview that aired on Sunday, the mayor reflected on his experience when pro-Trump protesters broke into the Capitol building and ransacked his office.
Pelosi said he believed the president should be held responsible through impeachment for inciting violence.
“Unfortunately, the person who runs the executive branch is a crazy, unbalanced and dangerous president of the United States, and [there are] just a few days until we can be protected from him, “said Pelosi during the interview.” But he did something so serious that there should be a case against him. “
She described the January 6 incident as “a terrible, terrible violation of the Capitol, the first branch of government – legislative power – by the President of the United States”. Pro-Trump protesters stormed the Capitol while lawmakers certified the results of the 2020 election, causing the chamber to temporarily stop counting and protect itself.

The Congressional session resumed that same night – with Pence presiding – and lasted until 4 am, as several Republican Party lawmakers continued to oppose the certification of election results in their respective states, although none of the objections was supported .
“Shame on them, and shame on two-thirds of the Republican bench in the House that supports – so these people are facilitators of the president’s behavior,” said Pelosi. “I remember when Republicans in the Senate went to see Richard Nixon and said it was over and that is what needs to happen now.”
Some Republicans, however, including Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, have reversed their decision to oppose.
House Democrats are trying to proceed with the impeachment process against the president in light of the siege of the Capitol, as well as urging Vice President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment, which would allow him and a cabinet of the majority of Trump to testify the president.
Pelosi wrote in a letter obtained by CNN that the impeachment process could start as early as this week if Pence does not respond to calls to invoke the 25th Amendment.
