Report: Cowboys Interview Jason Simmons for Defensive Coordinator Job

The Cowboys interviewee Panthers technical assistant Jason Simmons on Sunday for his vacant position as defensive coordinator, reports ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Simmons, 44, is Carolina’s defensive passing game coach and secondary coach.

Simmons was with the Cowboys’ head coach, hMike McCarthy, in Green Bay. Simmons worked for the 2011-19 Packers, starting there as an administrative assistant before working as an assistant coach for special teams and then a secondary coach.

He joined the Panthers before the 2020 season.

The Cowboys are also expected to speak with Joe Whitt Jr., the Falcons’ secondary coach and coordinator of the passing game, on Sunday.

Dallas fired Mike Nolan on Friday.

The Cowboys allowed the worst franchise of 473 points, surpassing the 436 that the 2010 team allowed. The allowed 2,541 running yards were below the team’s 2,636 record that the 2,000 team allowed.
