South Carolina Gamecocks trainer Shane Beamer officially appointed its next offensive coordinator.

University of South Carolina football coach Shane Beamer appointed Marcus Satterfield as offensive coordinator of Gamecocks and coach of defenders, he was announced today.
Satterfield comes to Columbia with more than 20 years of coaching experience in college, including two years as a head coach at Tennessee Tech. He has spent the past three years working under the tutelage of Matt Rhule, first as the recruitment director at Baylor in 2018, then as coach of Bears’ tight ends in 2019, before spending the 2020 season as the assistant coach of the Carolina Panthers offensive line.
“I have known Marcus for almost 20 years, since we were graduate assistants together,” said coach Beamer. “He has a brilliant offensive mind and brings experience at both the university and professional level.”
“Marcus was instrumental in rebuilding two university championship programs with me in Temple and Baylor,” said trainer Rhule. “His commitment to the student-athlete experience, his innovative mindset and his unique ability to teach were incredibly valuable and why I was so excited to be able to bring him to the Carolina Panthers. I think South Carolina is suffering tremendously offensive mind who will help turn them into a perennial candidate. “
Satterfield had a brief stint in 2018 in East Tennessee State, where he served as an offensive coordinator and defender coach, before joining Baylor.
Prior to his appointment at ETSU, he served as principal coach at Tennessee Tech 2016-17. In 2016, Satterfield led the Golden Eagles in their first winning conference season since 2011, with Tennessee Tech winning 5-3 at the Ohio Valley Conference.
From 2013 to 15, Satterfield was the offensive coordinator at Temple, where he helped guide the Owls to historic landmarks. In his first year at Temple, Satterfield’s attack averaged almost 400 yards per game, the maximum for an Owl team since 1979. Temple won the 2015 Eastern Athletic Conference Eastern Division title and had a 10-win season .
Satterfield also served as offensive coordinator in Chattanooga (2009-12) and UT Martin (2006-07). In 2010, Satterfield’s attack on Chattanooga averaged 430 yards and scored 49 touchdowns, which ranked 11 nationally. During their time at UT Martin, the Skyhawks led the OVC in the offensive scoring in 2007 and 2008, while also leading the league in the total attack in 2007.
Satterfield started his coaching career in Chattanooga in 1999, before becoming a graduate assistant at Coach Phillip Fulmer in Tennessee from 2002-03. Coach Beamer was a GA in Tennessee at the same time. He also made stops as a trainer for wide receivers in Richmond (2004) and Western Carolina (2005).
Satterfield played wide receiver and punter at East Tennessee State University from 1995-98, helping Bucs in the 1996 I-AA playoffs. He ended his career at ETSU with 124 receptions and 11 touchdowns. He graduated from ETSU in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in history.
A native of Greenback, Tennessee, Satterfield, 44, is married to ex-Sarah Houser. The couple has a daughter, Harper.
